Coordinate movement is one of the most basic, yet necessary, behaviours for people to acquire and perform throughout their lifetime. However, even the simple act of reaching to grasp an object requires the coordination of the sensory, skeletal and neuro-muscular systems. For people affected by tremor arising from multiple sclerosis, this becomes difficult. As a result, even walking and grasping for small objects can be difficult or impossible. The goal of Dr. Binsted’s research is to learn more how the brain manages this kind of damage, and how the progression of the disease is reflected by patients’ increasing difficulty in carrying out basic activities of everyday living.
