What YOU Can Do

Why promote health research?

Personal

Every person can benefit from health research to improve their health and make informed decisions. For example, how can exercise help Grandpa recover after his heart attack? How does obesity affect your joints in the long term? Can traditional diets help fight diabetes in remote communities? Knowledge created by health researchers helps people make decisions about their own health.

Policy

Government leaders rely on knowledge borne of health research to make decisions and institute policies that affect all of us. Should we be putting more emphasis on physical education in our schools to prevent chronic illness in the future? How should we focus resources to ensure our seniors, especially in rural areas, get the care they need? Research can give us these answers.

Professional

Spreading knowledge in the research community helps connect potential collaborators, sparking new ideas and new partnerships. This helps build Saskatchewan’s health research enterprise and keep us competitive on the national and international stage.

Prospective

News of Saskatchewan discoveries also serves to increase the interest of young researchers to come build careers in this province. Also, these stories get the word out to Saskatchewan students that health research offers exciting and fulfilling career paths.
