Partnering Process
Our partnerships can be formal and informal. Partners often provide additional financial resources for research, but in a broader sense, SHRF’s aims to build partnerships that go beyond just financial resources. With our current relationships, SHRF is able to:
- build capacity
- share knowledge
- build an environment of support for health reasearch
- minimize duplication and overlap in the system
- support Saskatchewan’s health research agenda as set through its Health Research Strategy;
- assist in addressing health research issues that affect the people of Saskatchewan;
- ensure health research plays an integral part in the continuum of health care policy; and
- transparency and accountability: as an agency supported by the Government of Saskatchewan, SHRF requires strong and accurate accounting of all funds.
SHRF believes strong partnerships benefit both parties. Once common interests have been recognized, we keep in mind a number of colloborative steps in forming beneficial partnerships:
- the need for a common understanding means an agreement of sorts: documentation that supports both parties interests, accountability and understanding especially around funding and responsibilities;
- the role of peer review: whether it is formal or advisory, the value of having leading individuals advise, support and assist in the direction of health research decision-making is critical to success;
- relevance: the partnership and its potential research focus must be relevant to the needs of the people of Saskatchewan and to the direction established in the Health Research Strategy; and
- transparency and accountability: as a agency supported by the Government of Saskatchewan, SHRF requires strong and accurate accounting of all funds.
Partnerships are a foundation of research and SHRF recognizes that strong collaboration and awareness keeps us vibrant as an agency. Strong partnerships with other funding agencies, not-for-profit organizations and the health research sector work to support and increase national investment for Saskatchewan health research opportunities. Our current partnerships assist SHRF in advancing our mandate and objectives, and help advance Saskatchewan’s Health Research Strategy.
Through collaboration with other funding agencies, SHRF works to support health research in Saskatchewan and increase national funds coming to Saskatchewan. Any grants funded through matching programs must fit SHRF’s mandate and objectives and must align with the goals of the provincial Health Research Strategy.
