MS Research

On October 19, 2010, the Government of Saskatchewan made $5 million available to SHRF to fund clinical trials for the MS liberation treatment. At that time SHRF outlined a three-step process for moving forward on the call for MS Clinical Trials.

The first step was to form an expert advisory panel to assist in developing criteria for a call for research proposals and to oversee the selection process. Panel members provided initial input into the request for proposals and SHRF announced on December 17th, 2010, the $5 million call for proposals inviting researchers to submit plans to undertake clinical trials on the liberation treatment for multiple sclerosis.

An expert panel worked with SHRF to develop the call to focus on the following research question: “Is the liberation procedure a safe and effective treatment for MS patients to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life?”

The review process on the proposals that were received was completed and announced on June 29, 2011. Our expert scientific review panel assessed the proposed research, both individually and as a group, and concluded that no proposal should be funded at that time.

SHRF is currently discussing what research or other activities could be funded related to advancing knowledge of the liberation treatment and MS in Saskatchewan. We will update our website with information, as it becomes available.
