The Saskatchewan Epidemiology Association works to advance the understanding and application of epidemiology through continuing education and network enhancement. This annual symposium and workshop is a main part of this vision.
This year’s event, themed “Unsettling the status quo: Intervention research in population health,” offers an exciting mix of researchers, public health practitioners, academics, and students presenting on a wide array of research and evaluation projects that examine interventions meant to reduce health problems and inequities.
Louise Potvin from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Montreal will deliver the keynote address, challenging participants to consider the possibilities and limits of epidemiology for population health intervention research. Dr. Potvin will also lead the Evaluation in Health Promotion workshop on October 30.
Other speakers of note include:
• Valerie Mann, Chief Population Health Epidemiologist, Saskatchewan Ministry of Health
• Nazeem Muhajarine, Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit
• Sarah Parker, Western College of Veterinary Medicine
• Jan Sargeant, Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses, University of Guelph
