Sask INC (Innovate, Network, Create) 2009 is a public innovation forum connecting business leaders, researchers, students, and financiers from key economic sectors to discuss opportunities and needs in two areas of strategic importance for Saskatchewan: natural resources and health.
This year’s event features keynote speaker Dr. Richard Satava, professor of surgery at the University of Washington Medical Centre and senior science advisor at the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. Trained at Johns Hopkins University, Satava completed a fellowship with a Master of Surgical Research at the Mayo Clinic. He brings his vast experience and knowledge of innovation processes in organizations such as DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency). Satava shares his insights into the health implications of information technology such as whole-body scans for diagnostic and training purposes, as well as robotic technology that allow surgeons to treat patients from hundreds of miles away via telepresence.
Sask INC also provides an Idea Forum: a venue for up-and-coming entrepreneurs to pitch their health-related innovations to venture capitalists, and to network with possible collaborators.
