Open Doors/Closed Ranks: Locating Mental Health After the Asylum Workshop
This two-day workshop explores the interdisciplinary themes of mental health care, hospitalization, treatment, policy and alternatives. The event is aimed at mental health care educators and workers, as well as social scientists and humanities scholars who share an interest in the historical and contemporary challenges associated with institutional care for people with mental disorders.
This workshop is part of a larger CIHR-funded project that compares mental health experiences in urban Vancouver, rural and urban Saskatchewan, and small town Nova Scotia since the 1960s, or following a period of long-stay hospital closures. Researchers from across Canada, the U.S. and U.K. will present original work, offer presentations, and participate in panel discussions.
