The Innovations in Qualitative Research Conference provides opportunities for faculty and graduate students to talk about the latest innovations in qualitative and mixed methods research. Health is a key area of exploration along with culture and inequality.
Conference keynotes are Dr. Christina Sinding and Brian Lobel. Conference paper and poster presenters represent disciplines such as Nursing, Community Health and Epidemiology, Psychology, Sociology, Kinesiology and Dentistry.
Sinding, from the School of Social Work at McMaster University, conducts research on women's health and health care. She engages in work surrounding innovative research representation and knowledge exchange, particularly research-based theatre.
Lobel, currently completing an MA in Performance from the University of London, delivers – or rather, performs – the closing keynote. A former cancer patient, Lobel explores the intersections between medicine, research and theatre with his one man show Ball.
The Crossing Communities Art Project forum and workshop will be held as pre-conference events. The events address health issues around self-harm and art as impetus for social change and healing. The workshop takes place June 2nd 12:30-3:00 at the Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming, 253 Third Ave. South. Register at self_harm_workshop@hotmail.com. The free public forum will take place June 2nd, at 7:00 pm at the Kenderdine Art Gallery at the U of S Agriculture Building; doors open at 6:00 p.m.
This event is supported in part by a SHRF Research Connections grant.
