The QEOL Group works to improve the quality of care for palliative and end of life patients and their families. The group’s efforts fall into four main themes: timely access to quality of end of life care; support of family caregivers; continuity of care across settings and providers; and diversity (specifically immigrant, Francophone and First Nations peoples). Knowledge generated by the QEOL group helps families and health care professionals provide the best possible care to people in the end stages of their lives. It also informs policy makers in addressing the needs of Saskatchewan’s population of elders.
The QEOL group draws expertise from all three provincial universities in disciplines including nursing, medicine, sociology, psychology, community health and epidemiology, social work, and spiritual care. The group also includes experts in media and production, whose contribution led to the development of a film based on research being conducted by group members about hope for families caring for persons with Alzheimers Disease (available online at www.usask.ca/nursing/research/livingwithhope).
