4th Annual University of Regina Graduate and Undergraduate Conference

April 3 and 4, 2009

This fourth annual student-organized and student-focused conference at the University of Regina aims to bring student research to the community.
This year’s keynote speaker is one of Canada’s best-known science journalists, Jay Ingram. Ingram is co-host and producer of Daily Planet, television's first daily science show. His Jay’s Journal is a well-known regular feature of that program. Over the past 30 years, he has hosted CBC Radio’s Quirks and Quarks, and the Talk Show, two radio documentary series about language. He has presented science items on the workings of the brain for CBC TV’s Health Show and contributed regular science features to CBC Newsworld. He holds four honourary doctorates and has written 10 books.
Also featured is Jorge Cham, creator and artist of Piled Higher and Deeper (PhD), the comic strip about life (or the lack thereof) in grad school. Often called the Dilbert of academia, PhD has appeared in the Stanford, MIT, Caltech and Carnegie Mellon newspapers among others. It is published online (www.phdcomics.com) where it receives over 7 million page views a month from over 1,000 universities and colleges worldwide.
The conference is a public event and all students, staff and faculty, members of the community, as well as high school students. Presentations and a poster session are offered in disciplines ranging from fine arts, humanities, and social sciences, to natural sciences and engineering. Several social events offer excellent opportunities for networking.
