Faculty and students from universities across the four Western Provinces converge at the University of Saskatchewan’s Physical Activity Complex for this 2nd Annual Exercise Physiologists of Western Canada Scientific Conference.
The conference provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows specializing in exercise physiology and physical activity and health to present their research to colleagues from across Western Canada. It is also a forum to meet scientists and possible collaborators from the Western Canadian universities.
Three keynote speakers include:
Dr. Paul Zehr (University of Victoria) will speak on the topic of exercise and neurophysiology and its applications to healthy and unhealthy populations (i.e. persons with spinal cord injuries, people with neuromuscular diseases).
Dr. Stuart Phillips (McMaster University) will speak about protein and exercise. His research includes the effect of exercise in young and elderly populations.
PhD candidate Aslee McGuire (Queens University) will speak about the future of physical activity measurement and guidelines in Canada.
The conference will also provide continuing education opportunities for Certified Exercise Physiologists (as certified by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology). Certified Exercise Physiologists are therapists who work in rehabilitation clinics and gym facilities.
