The transition to parenthood brings with it significant changes in the lives of men and women. Successful adaptation to these changes is crucial not only for the mental and physical health of new parents, but also for the healthy development of their infants. However, successful adaptation during the transition to parenthood may be made more difficult by the amount of fatigue that new parents experience. Dr. Lynn Loutzenhiser is studying fatigue and the factors associated with it in first-time mothers and fathers. Her work should help health professionals develop programs to support expectant and new parents, with the ultimate goal of achieving optimal child developmental.
