Obesity is a major health concern, affecting 5.5 million adults and 500,000 children in Canada alone. The World Health Organization recognizes obesity as a worldwide epidemic, putting people at risk for diabetes, heart disease, liver diseases, arthritis, and cancer.
The Obesity Research Group combines the insights of researchers in multiple disciplines that might otherwise work in isolation. These include community, economic, social, and cultural factors, as well as the biomedical underpinnings of obesity. The goal is to produce a comprehensive picture of obesity and shed light on strategies to prevent and treat this public health challenge.
