Primary health care, as defined by the World Health Organization, is essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology, universally accessible to all in the community through their full participation, at an affordable cost, and geared toward self reliance and self determination. Under this definition, hospitals and health centres are simply one facet of health and well-being.
The Primary Health Care Research Group works to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the health system through collaborative education, community engagement and integrating research strategies into training and clinical practices. The group engages all stakeholders to identify local strengths, assets, and opportunities for change.
