The molecular design research team uses research facilities such as the Canadian Light Source synchrotron to develop therapeutic drugs to detect, treat and prevent many diseases. Members of the team do this by elucidating molecular details involved in processes that play a substantial role in diseases such as bacterial infections, cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and immune disorders.
The team’s short-term goal is to discover new drugs to help prevent and treat these chronic diseases. In the long term the team hopes to build health research capacity by establishing pharmaceutical companies that would build Saskatchewan’s health research capacity by expanding our academic, medical and scientific communities.
