In today’s world many pharmaceutical and research laboratories are attempting to find new ways to administer and regulate drugs to specific areas of the body. Quite often when a person uses a prescriptive drug the majority of it may not be specifically absorbed in the area of the body needing treatment. Liposomes are spherical biomimetic structures that can encapsulate drugs. This research will develop liposomes that specifically target diseased cells and allow the user to control the amount of drug that is administered to the desired area using selective light irradiation. The combination of targeting and regulating drug delivery will produce a unique strategy that will target diseased cells with better selectivity than current drug delivery methodologies.
