This research will explore Cree concepts of mental health and investigate how these concepts may be incorporated into Saskatchewan’s healthcare system. Research will be conducted through participatory and action approaches, interviews, and focus groups on individuals from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation (SLFN) community. Community mental health practitioners will also be involved in the study to determine the extent of which their practices reflect Cree concepts. These findings will be analyzed alongside an analysis of relevant mental health policies and programs in practice throughout the province. Once the two approaches have been analyzed and compared, the findings will be used to ultimately increase the cultural relevance of healthcare policies and programs as they relate to mental health.
