Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug in developed countries. Recent studies have proved that long-term marijuana use creates a dependence, or addiction. It is possible that this occurs in long-term rather than short-term use, because with long-term use the brain produces new neurons that tell the brain it is dependant on the substance. Dr. Jiang, working with Dr. Zhang, aims to test that theory.
