Scientists and practitioners have made modest advances in the three decades since Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (now referred to as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder or FASD) was first described, and much remains to be done in FASD research and prevention. While prevention and treatment of FASD is of societal importance across Canada, it has particular relevance in Saskatchewan. Dr. Muhajarine and his colleagues will focus on: the cell-based mechanisms of the causal pathway resulting in FASD; FASD diagnosis and management best practices; and “upstream” causes and community and societal implications of FASD.
