Creating vaccines to stimulate immunity to disease in the intestines of large animals and humans is the purpose of this project. In previous research, the VIDO team has learned the immune responses are different in different parts of the intestine—a notion that challenges previous understanding. Dr. Gerdts aims to learn more about those differences, leading to the design of new vaccines that can be used for immunization of young infants and animals.
